As regards the architectural concept, the main idea was to unify indoor and outdoor areas, creating friendly open spaces that would give the visitors a sense of freedom, within nature.
Working on this idea. stone, wood, steel and glass are the materials selected to form the desired experience in both the exterior and interior spaces, starting from the landscape design and the facades of the house, ending to custom furniture and several architectural details.
More specifically:
– Stone appears on vertical surfaces, forming low or high walls with small or no openings between different functional unities.
– The sloping roof remains visible inside the house so as to ensure higher spaces and extensive wooden surfaces indoors. Apart from the furniture, wood is also used in parts of the floor in order to indicate the transition from one space to another, even when there is no wall between them.
– Steel mostly appears as square hole perforated mesh in different sizes, in order to form semi transparent surfaces allowing partial visual contact on either side.
– Glass railings are used on the staircase, the loft and the balcony, as a minimal material choice offering unobstructed views. At the same time big windows fill the house with natural light and frame different parts of the outdoor space, bringing nature inside.
– The remaining surfaces are painted in several shades of pale colours deriving from the surroundings, as well as reflecting the surroundings indoors.
In conclusion, the architectural design attempts to integrate the building into the landscape, ensuring that interior and exterior spaces function as a whole.
